Carnival: Achipencos & Arretrancos

The Regata de Achipencos is one of the most anticipated events of the Fuerteventura Carnival. In this fun competition, held in Puerto del Rosario, participants build floating contraptions called "achipencos" using recycled materials. Without conventional boat parts or harmful propulsion, competitors manually power their creations in a 1.5 km race across the bay. Creativity and originality are rewarded, while speed is not a factor. It’s a celebration that highlights the joy and ingenuity of the island’s carnival.
