Canary Islands Festival of Religious Music

The 19th Canary Islands Festival of Religious Music presents a performance of Officium Defunctorum by Tomás Luis de Victoria, a masterpiece of the Spanish Renaissance, at the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura. Composed in 1605 for the funeral rites of Empress María of Austria, this requiem mass stands out for its balance between plainchant and polyphony, conveying profound spirituality. The performance will be led by the renowned vocal ensemble I Fagiolini, under the direction of Robert Hollingworth, offering the audience a musical experience that reflects the richness of sacred heritage.
